The members of the CGT umbrella union’s Executive Board announced yesterday they will hold a general strike on Monday, June 25. The decision follows the cancellation of a meeting with members of the Macri administration, aimed at preventing exactly that.
According to media, it mainly had to do with the government’s reluctance to meet two of their demands: exempt this month’s aguinaldo – a half-salary employees are paid each June and December, in accordance with Labor Laws – from paying the income tax, and take their side on a potential agreement with employers aimed at having them commit to refrain from laying off employees for a period of six months.
